   This ad makes it look like we should be afraid of Muslims or that they belong behind bars.

   This ad portrays the burka as oppression and something that Muslim women need to be freed from, but this is far from the case. While in some countries women are forced to wear it, the burka can also be a form of religious expression. It should not be portrayed as something women need "freeing" from

   This one is really hard for me to rate, because it can only be rated by extremes; either you hate the burka and find it a tool of oppression, or you find it to be a cultural staple that would be harmful to remove. This ad, however, acts like it can only be one of these things, oppressive, and need freedom from, when sometimes they do not understand the social signifcance and perhaps even willingness to wear it. It's more up to the choice of the wearer, but this ad takes the initiative and tries to decide what is right for them.

   I don't believe it is fully harmful in the sense that this is a culture in the Middle East that is taught throughout one's life. We, in the Western world, may believe that it is not right for women to be treated as they are in these countries or in this religion, but by showing our bias does it not allow us to try to inquire about how these women actually feel in this environment. Some women may be comfortable with this way of life, we can't assume ALL women are "prisoners" to that culture. On the other hand, basic human rights will dictate that the treatment of women in this culture is harmful since they are considered second-class and their thoughts, feelings and knowledge, although valuable, is discounted only because they are women.
