The advertisement was used as a piece of self empowerment and standing up for your beliefs. Colin Kapernick was believed to have been cut from the NFL because he kneeled for the National Anthem. This became a huge story in the media and was a big deal. Nike saw this and saw how upset and angry people got at the story and the situation and decided to capitalize. They used his picture in order to show their support in hopes that people would support them supporting him and buy their apparel.
